The Process

How does ReelKeeper work, start to finish?
Four steps: (1) Order your kit: choose a size and we ship a crushproof box within 2 business days. Includes a Welcome Guide, safety barcodes, and prepaid UPS return label. (2) Pack your tapes: barcode each item, load with protective inserts, seal and drop at any UPS location. (3) We digitize: trained technicians hand-process every item at our US facility with real-time SMS updates. (4) Download + receive: we email your private cloud link, then ship your originals back insured and padded.
How long does the whole process take?
Standard processing takes 6–8 weeks from when we receive your box. Add Rush Processing ($29.99) for a 5–7 business day turnaround. SMS updates throughout.
Do I need any tech knowledge to do this?
None at all. Your kit includes a printed, step-by-step Welcome Guide. If you've ever mailed a package, you can do this. Average customer age is 55.
What happens after I ship my box back?
(1) We log receipt and notify you by SMS/email. (2) A technician inspects and catalogs your items. (3) Each item is cleaned and digitized by hand. (4) A quality reviewer checks the output. (5) Files uploaded to your private cloud. (6) Originals repacked and shipped back.
Can I track my order while it's at your facility?
Yes: every item gets a unique barcode. SMS updates at each step: received, digitizing, quality check, shipped. Check your status anytime on our website.

Quality & Digitizing

What resolution do you digitize at?
Standard VHS is captured at the highest resolution the source tape supports (typically 480i), output as high-quality MP4. Film reels captured at up to 4K depending on format and condition.
What if my tapes are really old or damaged?
The majority of old or damaged tapes we receive are recoverable. If a tape is truly unrecoverable, we notify you before processing and issue a full refund for that item.
Will the quality look as good as the original tape?
Better, in most cases. We clean playback heads, use professional capture equipment, and encode to high-quality MP4. Add Color Restoration to correct fading and VHS color shifts.
Who actually digitizes my tapes — people or machines?
Real people, always. Every item is handled by a trained technician. Quality checks run on every single order, not random audits.
What if I'm not happy with the quality?
30-day satisfaction guarantee. Contact us within 30 days and we'll re-digitize affected items at no charge.

Absolutely. Each item gets its own barcode and is processed individually. Your download link organizes everything clearly by item.
Do you accept DVDs or home recordings?
Yes: DVDs and burned discs count as one item and can be included in any kit.

Shipping & Safety

What happens to my originals while in the mail?
Insured against loss or damage through UPS. Our crushproof box is engineered for fragile media. Foam inserts and padding instructions included.
How do I ship my box back to you?
Your prepaid UPS return label is already inside the kit. Pack your tapes, seal the box, and drop it off at any UPS Store or Access Point. No printer needed.
How long until I receive my kit after ordering?
Ships within 2 business days. Standard UPS Ground adds 2–5 business days depending on location.
Do you ship to all US states?
All 48 contiguous US states. Currently no service to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or international addresses.

Your Digital Files

How do I access my digital files?
We email a private link to your personal memory cloud. Stream, download individual files, or download everything as a ZIP. No app required.
What file format are my videos delivered in?
All videos are delivered as MP4 files and photos as high-resolution JPEGs. Files play on iPhones, Android devices, Windows PCs, Macs, smart TVs, and other compatible devices.
How long do I have to download my files?
Starter/Family: 30 days free. Closet: 1 year. Trunk: lifetime. Extended cloud storage (1 year for $19.99) available at checkout.
Can I share my files with family members?
Yes: your cloud link can be shared with anyone. Family members can view and download files directly without an account.
Are my files private?
Private by default. Technicians view a small preview during quality checks only. Files are never shared, marketed, sold, or used to train AI. Download link is encrypted and unique to you.
What if my download link expires before I get all my files?
Contact us: we'll extend access. We never permanently delete files without advance warning. Reach out within 2 years and we'll restore access at no charge.
